Thoughts on Yuri?
Decided to break up the Tetro Pink cast opinions by talking about the Russian Spaceman for once. You know since I compared him to Yanagi and all.
Yuri is a character that its interesting that he is the polar opposite of Mitch. While Mitch's main trait is that he disrespects women and serves to be a shallow unsympathatic Chapter 1 culprit to path way for Tsurugi's idealogy to take central stage, here Yuri serves to prove that SDRA2 is not the Killing Game you want to be in if you want to live as the smart characters go on the chopping board.
Yuri idolises women and would do anything to please them, as when he first found out Sora was suffering from amnesia, he not only expressed great distress that a beautiful woman like her could be suffering from something so vile but also vowed he would do anything he can to help restore her memories. On the flip side he's a total misandrist as he was very dismissive of Yuki when he noticed he was there and when he said he would be willing to be killed by a woman, if said woman told him to kill a man, he would make it the most gruesome imaginable.
Yuri is one of the few characters confirmed to be a forgeiner as he's Japanese-Russian, which given the very shaky relations the two countries have had in the past, makes me wonder if Yuri's father didn't treat him that well but his mother did, which made him adopt the persona he has now. Of course when Akane was employed to work for the Kagarins and he found out about her devotion to Utsuro, this was another inspriation for Yuri to be as much of a ladies's man as possible.
The SDRA2 fandub does something cool as not only does his VA put on a Russian accent, but his dialogue often includes Russian words in them. Its a neat touch but I have heard the Russian fanbase complain that these words aren't used properly or don't fit the situation they are used in. Since for obvious reasons its very hard to verify that now, and I don't speak Russian myself so I cannot tell if the words actually fit or not.
It does suck that Yuri dies in Chapter 1 because while obviously someone has to be the victim and wiith how Nagito-like Yuri was acting he was the obvious choice, it would have been interesting to see how he would behave in a Class Trial, especially if a woman was accused of murder? He also seems to be very perceptive as he would often poke holes in Mikado's plans and the reason he offered himself up is as someone experience in being kidnapped, seriously dude is competing with Princess Peach here, he can tell nobody is gonna come for them so they need to get the ball rolling.
Like most Chapter 1 deaths, more about Yuri is revealed later like how much buffer he gets to the horror of the SDRA2 fanbase, and that he's actually the true creator of Monocrow, who was unironically named Yuri, hey its a unisex name, before Mikado stole her and bastardised her into Monocrow, I guess that explains why Monocrow behaves very differently from the other mascot characters because they were a force of good at first before being twisted by evil.
Overall Yuri doesn't exactly rub people the right way with his simping habits but I do wish he lived a bit longer because it would have been interesting for his intelligence to be put to use. Then again SDRA2 is the brain drain game where smart characters either die or become psychos so maybe it was for the best that Yuri died so early.

So, when Danganronpa S was released (and V3's UTDP but I'll get to that later...) Hinata and Komaeda were given noticeably different versions of their pre-existing sprites for their swimsuit versions:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you struggle to see a difference, note Hinata's wider mouth in the swimsuit ver., and Komaeda's narrower eyes and more outlined smirk in his swimsuit ver.
I, along with many people, always wondered, why? Why change these already perfectly fine sprites and, honestly, make them worse? What gives?
Then, I stumbled across something. Back in 2012, before the Japanese release of Super Danganronpa 2, you could play an online monomono machine to win little goodies like desktop backgrounds and profile pictures. Please note these pre-release desktop backgrounds for Hinata and Komaeda:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...So, wait a minute. The sprites used in Danganronpa S aren't new edits, but beta sprites? Older than the ones featured in the original SDR2? Turns out, this website features desktop backgrounds using beta sprites for nearly every character that otherwise never saw the light of day.*
I'm going to go through them one by one, gif comparisons included. This won't be the only post, either! UTDP also has some very interesting likely beta art used in it, too. As well, some of the other sprites featured in Danganronpa S may also be reused beta sprites!
As such, this log will be broken into three parts. This is part 1.
[Part 2 - UTDP (not made yet!)] [Part 3 - DRS (not made yet!)] [Part 4 - Dangan Island (not made yet!)]
*with the exception of UTDP in some cases, as well as some other things I will get to in Part 4.
As said, semi-flashing gifs will be included in this post. They are meant to swap between the beta and final sprites at a fast pace to illustrate the differences (2 frame, half a second each). Be cautious if you have epilepsy.
Also, because of Tumblr's stupid image limit, this post will have a reblog with the rest of the sprites! So please check this post's reblogs, it should be the first one!
Firstly, how do we know these are actually beta sprites? These images are sourced from the Danganronpa fandom wiki, and while I generally trust the wiki's credibility, it's always imperative to fact-check. So, I went ahead and searched Danganronpa's old website on the Wayback Machine and uncovered this:
Tumblr media
A character intro page for Hinata, using this same beta sprite. Now, granted, the only capture of this page is from 2015. Still a year before V3 and a few more before S, but still, it's not the 2012 original. That said, a character intro page for Mioda circa early 2014 looks exactly the same, including the usage of her beta sprite.
And, when you click on the button that says スクリーンショット(Screenshot)...
Tumblr media
You're offered a very obviously beta trial shot. As is common with Danganronpa trials, in development, the actual character portraits are not put in until later, and to substitute, their art reference photos are used, as seen on the left.
With that out of the way, I think it's safe to say these sprite we are about to look at are indeed betas.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's only fair, then, we focus on Hinata first.
(Please note for all the comparison gifs I had to manually size the final sprites to get them as close as possible in aspect ratio. Very minor size difference between sprites is likely a result of this and not an actual detail change.)
Tumblr media
A lot is revealed with a simple gif. Hinata's entire face shape was changed (including ears), not just his mouth. In fact, not just the shape of his face, but the face itself is drawn very differently in the end. The neck of his shirt was raised, as well as tie being redrawn (you can actually see where the new part begins somewhat sloppily). Less notable but still apparent are his bangs being redrawn and shaded differently.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keeping with consistency, let's check out Komaeda next.
Tumblr media
Yet again, the differences are striking when flipped back and forth. Komaeda's face shape and ear was redone much like Hinata, but not to nearly the same dramatic extent. As well, his entire face was redrawn, notably erasing the black shading under his chin and shortening his eyelashes. Less noticeable, the hair touching his neck is shortened a bit, and the crease line on his hood is more well-defined. They also slightly changed the line art for the first fold in his shirt, the neck at the back of his shirt, as well as his leftmost bang. Interestingly, they either forgot or didn't care to fix the shading to reflect the new placement of these lines. His jacket also has some changes in line art weight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With Hinata and Komaeda out of the way, let's touch on Kuzuryuu.
Tumblr media
This one honestly shocked me. Besides the added detail of him spitting, I didn't notice any difference right off the bat until I overlayed the images, but the differences are night and day. His eyes are made to be less mean and more skeptical. His mole was shrunk and his nose is more 3-dimensional. Extra detail is added to his ear while his hair is redrawn in whole, including it being slightly shorter. What's most interesting is the fact the body was sized up and moved down several pixels, I imagine to change the perspective. Some minor line changes are made to the white undershirt of his suit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It would be improper not to do Pekoyama next.
Tumblr media
Again, just like Kuzuryuu, I didn't notice half of these changes at first. Pekoyama's whole face is slimmed. The outer outline of her hair remains the same, but almost every outline inside of it, including her bangs, changes. (Although, her right twin-tail has a slightly longer end to it.) Her outfit receives minor touch-ups, including a clothes fold on her breast and darker shading by her collarbone. Speaking of, her neck muscles and such have been redrawn. Most interesting to me is the fact Pekoyama's outline is noticeably thicker with action lines in the original beta sprite, but lack them in the final sprite as if somebody used the magic wand tool to edit the background out, editing away some of the jagged black lines in the process. She is the only character where this happens.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since she is a major character, let's do Nanami now.
Tumblr media
I wasn't surprised to find Nanami has virtually no difference about her. Her design was pretty much set in stone early on. That said, it's not entirely the same. Though very minor, the thickness of her left eye was increased at the top. As well, shading across her pinky finger was removed. There is also a chance her body is slightly bigger, but that's more likely to be a result of me failing to perfectly match up the two images.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I want to focus on Souda now as he was the first one I did this test with.
Tumblr media
You know, when I first played SDR2, I thought Souda looked kind of scary. His beta is even scarier looking! I can see why they changed it...Every detail on his face is redrawn including his chin, notably his pupil was enlarged and his eyebrows were quirked. Funnily, it seems the clip on his beanie was redrawn, but like Komaeda, they didn't edit the color layer to match the new outline. Some minor line art changes were made to his back hair. The lines for his neck and collarbone were lessened, and the jacket zipper is made more three dimensional. His thumb was fixed too, as well as the lines on his hand.
Also, here's a fun little thing I noticed while replaying SDR2 just a few days ago!
Tumblr media
The sprite used for Souda in the Dangan Island opening is the exact same as the beta sprite! This would be the only time Westerners would catch a glimpse of some beta sprites until UTDP, as keep in mind, these wallpapers were exclusive to the Japanese Danganronpa website.
In fact, Souda isn't the only one with a beta sprite in the Dangan Island opening. I will also be covering that in part 4.
Moving on...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I guess it's only natural we look at Sonia's sprite next.
Tumblr media
Changes like these ones are very interesting to me, because if you did not do a side-by-side like this, you may never see how many minor details were changed. A lot of Sonia's line art was redrawn to be more detailed, such as more lines in her hair, thinner outlines for her braid, and redrawn creases in her shoulders and bow (as well as a redrawn button). Her face is interesting as some very minor changes were made. Some detail is added to both ears (thicker outline on the right, changed line art on the left) and her left eyebrow is slightly edited. She was also given extra eyelashes on both sides. When it comes to such minor changes, it makes you wonder why they bothered at all. I wonder what the development looked like.
Anyways, please check the reblog for the second part! That's where the rest of the characters will be!

CH2-13 Thoughts + CH2-14 Predictions
Hello DRDT Fandom! CH2-13 came out about four or so days ago as I'm posting this, and I finally mustered up the energy and mental strength to write down my overall thoughts, and also general predictions for what I think is to come in the next episode. A lot happened in this episode and we have a lot to cover, so let's get started! Before we do though, I think I should give us a reminder of where we currently are in terms of the swear chart and the bingo card, as of CH2-12 Swear Statistics
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bingo Card
Tumblr media
Just like the last post, I'll be separating my talking points into character categories, so let's jump straight in with the big man himself...
Levi
Tumblr media
Quick Disclaimer: I myself am still trying to unlearn the mindset that having low or no empathy is in any way a moral failing. If I say anything wrong or rude, please politely correct me. Remember kids: Your feelings, thoughts, and emotions, what you feel and how you feel them if you do at all, do not have any moral weight, they are simply aspects of your brain and you cannot control your brain. The only thing that has moral weight is your actions.
So as we learned in the previous episode, Levi has the murderer secret! And as we learn in this episode, he apparently killed four people, one of which being his father. DRDT continues to take Danganronpa's standard tropes and incorporating them in unique ways, in this case Levi represents the trope of the Chapter 2 Serial Killer reveal (Genocide Jack, Peko, Maki). I love that DRDT keeps doing this and I hope it keeps it up You know what else is staying consistent, though?
(x) Levi: That incident happened when I was in my junior year of high school. Levi: My junior year was also the year that Hope's Peak scouted me as the Ultimate Personal Stylist. Levi: To my understanding, it would've reflected poorly on Hope's Peak to recruit a murderer, so they pressured the court into not pressing charges.
US-HPA being morally corrupt as all fuck, that's what! Like no, seriously, it makes more and more sense as for why Xander David and Mai were most likely forming a revolution against this damn place, cause wow. The choice to scout out Levi during his Junior Year, when he was still in high school, is...interesting. Given that this Hope's Peak takes in College-aged students, why not just wait until Levi has graduated high school? In fact, that probably would've been even better because by then Levi definitely would've perfected his skills in styling by then, and thus would further justify him being enrolled in the academy. We don't know whether or not Levi was scouted before or after his incident, but given how Levi explains the events, I'm willing to bet this was after. Which...makes thing especially strange. But I'm sure it's no big deal. I mean, it's not like we have any evidence of US-HPA preying on vulnerable childre--
(x) Min: The Ultimate Contest for Eminent Students was made for a very specific target audience. Min: Those children who had no talents, who would consider spending their entire lives preparing for one single test for even a chance to become an Ultimate...
Oh. Well isn't that funny, huh?
Part of Hope's Peak's branding in general is the promise of a better future, which is something that Levi clearly wants. So I can most definitely see why the idea of being enrolled in the academy appealed to him. Levi being a delinquent in his teenage years definitely tracks, given how we know that his family was full of bad influences (including himself more than likely). And I am absolutely not surprised that Levi ended up killing his father. I think a lot of us theorized for a while that the person he killed was linked to his family.
I'd absolutely adore to learn more about Levi's family situation and what exactly their relationship with each other was, because "We were bad influences on each other" can mean a lot of things. Given the fact that not even the police cared about the death of Levi's father, I'd be pretty willing to believe that Mr. Fontana is a wanted man who has done a lot of criminal harm to others. That might even be where Levi formed the mindset that people are defined by their actions. Maybe, that's my best guess and it doesn't even include his mother and brothers, lmao. Anyway, that's enough of Murder, Corruption, and Daddy Issues. Let's talk about the other thing that was revealed about Levi this episode, or more-so put into words. His low, if zero empathy. Firstly, those who are headcannoning Levi is ASPD, I see you and I love you. So much. But I would be lying if I didn't admit that my first thought upon watching this scene was "Levi is so Autismcoded" lmao But in all seriousness, I absolutely adore this side of his character. In general something I've always loved about Levi is the fact that he, to put it bluntly, does not know how to act. He's constantly seeing what others do and copying them, and asking them for guidance when he doesn't know what to do. His first appearance shows him using Xander and Teruko's appearances to wager what kind of person they are, which is more than likely how he got into styling in the first place. He's basically masking and trying to appear as what he views as normal because he's aware that his lack of empathy is not something most humans possess. And his actions reflect that of what he thinks a good person would do in these scenarios, whether that be your friends not inviting you to an event, or someone profusely bleeding from their neck. To put it in simple terms: He's masking. I love that. It really reminds me of the experiences had by my neurodivergent friends, and even though Levi is not canonically neurodivergent, the fact that so many people headcannon him with ASPD or Autism really goes to show how DT-Dev nailed that kind of experience, and how well they wrote Levi's low empathy in general. Well-done, DT-Dev :D ...Also I think it's safe to say that Accomplice!Levi is not happening. Damn it, I really liked that theory lmao.
Ace
Tumblr media
[not even three minutes later]
Tumblr media
...See, this is why I always believed Ace was telling the truth about David and Arei's conversation, because wow this man is competing with the former in the Shitty Liar Olympics.
If Ace's sense of security around Levi wasn't already shattered, it sure as hell is now. Which is very upsetting to see, but also very entertaining to me as an aficionado of toxic yaoi. I was never really an Acevi girl, it was just never something I was attracted to (probably because for a majority of CH2 Part 1's airing I really didn't like Ace lmao), but this combined with the Other Thing I'll talk about later has definitely sold me on it. I hope they get worse.
I can't remember what post it was, but I remember seeing someone talk about Ace very much projecting a friendship onto Levi that was never really there between them, and looking back, I absolutely agree. I mean, where the two of them really friends? I do think that Levi does, or did, genuinely like Ace. I don't think he would've been hanging around him in Chapter 1 if he didn't. But it was simply just that, he liked Ace. Ace loved Levi, and saw him as his lifeboat in the midst of this scary unfamiliar situation. Even if everyone else either was annoyed by or straight-up disliked Ace, even if he could die at any moment, he could still rely on Levi as a presence of safety and security, but that all came crumbling down.
Tumblr media
ace can you please change your sprite
The fact that Ace, the man famous for jumping to conclusions, not thinking anything through or in depth, and switching his opinions on others on a dime, is even asking for Levi's defense at all, is proof enough to me that even after everything Ace still wanted to cling onto the fantasy of their friendship he had built up in his mind. But upon hearing that Levi never cared about what happened to him, he can no longer do so. ...And why do I think Ace got attached to Levi so quickly?
(x) Ace: I was totally right all along to burn our friendship--No, I can't even call it it "Friendship." Ace: There's only one person in my whole life who I've ever been able to call my friend. That I ever thought, even for just a short time, that you and I were "friends" is an insult to his memory.
Yeah it's time to talk about this.
So for those who are not in the know, DT-Dev confirmed in a now-deleted ask that this friend of Ace's is named Taylor Riley.
Tumblr media
(thank you to @/nicohakobyan / weightedblankett on twitter for providing this screenshot)
We know very little about this man other than his name, his gender, the fact that he was Ace's friend, and that he's dead. We don't actually know that fourth one, but I think "insult to his memory" speaks for itself lmao. As such, we do not know the details of his relationship with Ace... But I've made more out of less before, so let's get to talking. Here's what I think:
I think that Taylor was a presence in Ace's life much similar to how Levi was to him in Chapter 1: A strong protective figure that helped to make the scared-of-everything Ace feel a sense of safety. And then some form of incident happened that resulted in Taylor's death, leaving Ace alone, heartbroken, bitter, and terrified. That sense of security he once had was ripped away from him, and without Taylor, he doesn't know what to do with himself anymore.
And then in the killing game, he meets Levi, who provides him with a similar feeling of safety. Immediately he begins to project the memory of Taylor onto Levi and as such becomes attached, quickly considering Levi a friend because of it. And I'm not entirely pulling this idea that Ace was projecting Taylor onto Levi out of my ass, either.
Tumblr media
Ace: dark blue/purple (reasoning: refuses to provide reasoning)
When we first got this answer, most people assumed this was referring to Levi, but I honestly think it is more likely that this is referring to Taylor. But those colors are still part of Levi's design, which automatically sets up a parallel between both Levi and Taylor Ace projected his relationship and the memory of Taylor onto a man he barely knew, and when that man lost his patience with him, his fantasy was swiftly kicked with the steel-toed shoe of reality. Hell, Ace's reaction after Levi snapped at him may had been due to his illusion of safety crumbling beneath him, but going down the road of this theory, Levi snapping at him might've been the first time Ace truly saw Levi and not Taylor. He had been giving this man a script and a role to play, and Levi responded by tearing up the paper and telling him to fuck off. In a sense, you could say that in that moment, Ace lost Taylor a second time.
Since I don't think Ace is going to be the killer as he was knocked out and thus did not have any knowledge of the murder mechanism (at least not including the theory that he tried to kill himself, which... Is a possibility, but I don't think that's the case). And if he does live past his chapter, I honestly think Chapter 3 will mark his breaking point. Any fantasy of Levi that he was clinging onto with his pinky has now shattered into pieces ten times over, the person who tried to kill him is still alive and for all he knows, could do it again whenever the hell they want to and people will take their side over his own. Next to no one in the cast likes him and they make that explicitly clear, and worse of all, he will still be trapped in this godforsaken...whatever facility this place is meant to be. So to cap off this section that got way too long, Ace Trauma Dump is on my Chapter 3 bingo card, and if we get to see Taylor and his design includes dark blue and purple I will actually become spaghettified. Please survive Ace, you are finally starting to become not C-Tier
Hu and Veronika
Tumblr media
Lumping these two together because I have about the same amount to say about both of them and their secrets were revealed together. Hu's secret is the Hopeless Child one, and Veronika's is the Self Harm one. I think after CH2 Part 1 most of us predicted as such, but it's still very satisfying to be right. What I'm more interested is this supposed pact that they made off-screen. I have to assume that Veronika went to Hu pretty quickly to reveal her secret to her given her general disinterest in topics of suicide and self harm. So I'd wager this pact was probably made at around CH2-5. Not that that really tells us much about the actual conversation, but it's nice to have a time-frame for reference.
I don't expect the actual conversation to be shown because from what we currently have it doesn't really add much of anything, but it would definitely be cool.
(x) Hu: I've been quite selfish this whole time, keeping my secret because I didn't want you all to think less of me...
I've said this before in this post, but I absolutely believe that David eventually coaxed and pressured Hu into revealing her secret to him, as well as why she kept it for so long. And I also think David implanted, or I guess more accurately watered the seed in Hu's head that she was inherently selfish for not sharing her secret. That, I think we would benefit from a flashback, but maybe I'm just biased because I desperately want Hu lore. Please DT-Dev, I'm on my knees Hmm... what else?
(x) Veronika: After all, my own so-called secret isn't even the worst thing I've done. Isn't that so utterly disappointing for this motive?
Oh yeah there's that. What the fuck, Veronika? Like, I feel like this is something I should've expected this, but for some reason I didn't. I'll be honest here, I really have nothing right now. But whatever Veronika is referring to here, I feel like it has something to do with her 'dearest friend' mentioned in the CH2 Q&A (who's name is Alyssa Belyaeva.) What Veronika actually did? I do not have the slightest clue, you can never know with this girl. But no matter what she did, I will probably love her even more for it. Glad that DT-Dev seems to agree with the precedence of supporting women's wrongs.
Teruko
Tumblr media
...So I'm glad to see we're all in agreement that that is not her fucking secret. I mean, I'm sure it applies to her. She is an orphan, her parents are out of the picture, and though we don't know the whereabouts of her brother and neither does she, she most likely assumes he's dead as well. But honestly, given the fact that again this is not her fucking secret, I'm starting to wonder if that's really the case... Can Teacher Tawaki theory still live on? I'll save that for another post.
Anyway what was I talking about? Oh yeah, that is not her fucking secret.
Tumblr media
And this little bitch knows that for a fact.
I won't go too deep into this because there have already been people discussing it better than I could, but this silent agreement the two of them have to not share Teruko's true secret is so palpable and interesting to me. David knows that Teruko's secret isn't that, but for whatever reason, he is keeping his mouth shut. And he just gives Teruko that shit-eating smirk. Have I ever mentioned how much I love Teruvid? I fucking love Teruvid. But yeah, I still think 100% that Teruko's secret is that the killing game is all her fault. It just does not make sense for Xander and Min's secrets to belong to anyone other than each other as they are dead. And in general it just makes sense for Teruko's character and her role in the story. And I can't help but feel like Teruko's actual secret will be revealed at the end of the Chapter.
Eden
Tumblr media
... I mean. Do I really need to say more? I swear I made this exact joke in the previous thoughts post, but I can't help it. It applies perfectly to this CG. When this CG, this fucking JUMPSCARE of a CG, popped up on my screen, I'm pretty sure I ran around in a circle screaming in my room for a total of ten minutes. The first of two times I would do that during this masterfully crafted scene. I want to think of some kind of insightful analysis, but the truth is basically in your face. Eden was the one who gouged out Xander's eye. Why did she do it? Where does this fit into the overall lore? I DON'T FUCKING KNOW What the fuck am I supposed to say? This CG is basically all we have, and we'll definitely have to wait for more information. Especially since Eden is totally the culprit, but we'll get to that in the predictions section. (yeah if you can't tell my writing juice is starting to run out, but if I get this out any later than today I will kill myself)
David
Tumblr media
(...for a scumbag, he's kinda cute.) So first of all, David is slowly becoming the funniest character in the cast in my opinion, which is a huge achievement in a cast full of very funny characters. And in general I think as a character he perfectly captures DRDT's general tone of half-and-half both silliness and angst, like yin and yang. Secondly though, the big thing that David did in this chapter (besides keeping Teruko's secret and being funny) is lying to Eden about the rest of the conversation he had with Arei. Ultimately, I think David himself saw that action as a good deed.
Think of it from his perspective: This is a man who has had hope and change presented to him on a silver platter multiple times, and then had it violently ripped away from him. And the most recent example of that, Arei, presented him with a better future and the possibility of change only to be killed upon trying to act on said change. If he told Eden that Arei still had hope, that she still wanted to change, it would aspire Eden with that same hope that in his eyes is destined to crash down on her. So instead of inflicting that same pain onto her, he instead chose to say nothing at all Maybe I'm giving David too much credit, what he did was still at the end of the day, incredibly dickish. But that interpretation is what makes the most sense to me personally. That's all I really have to say in regards to David... So, let's move onto what was, in my opinion, the star of this week's episode.
Arei
Tumblr media
Arei Nageishi.... Ohhhh save me Arei Nageishi.... Arei was already one of my favorite characters in the cast due to her personality, design, voice acting, and most of all the character development she had throughout the course of Chapter 2. But this episode, this scene... It cemented her a well-earned spot in my top four, sitting only behind Whit, Teruko, and David.
The flashback scene of Arei and David in this episode is honestly up there with some of the best scenes in the whole show to me, almost solely because of how it caps off Arei as a character postmortem, and the story that she, along with Chapter 2 as a whole, is meant to tell. This whole chapter has been themed around the idea of what classifies a good person, and this flashback scene provides such a great payoff to that theme and it is everything I could've ever wished for. The message I got from Arei's story is that, ultimately, the idea of a "Good Person" and a "Bad Person" are nothing more than just that. Ideas. And in being ideas, they are above anything else, arbitrary, subjective, and at the end of the day, incredibly meaningless when it comes to discussing actual human beings. Insistence on categorizing yourself and the people around you into boxes of "pure saint that can do no wrong" and "irredeemable demon who will burn in the pits of hell" is a fast track to viewing a complicated, colorful world into a few shades of black and white. That's how David views the world, and has viewed the world probably for years. And I'm going to be honest and say that I think before being confronted with the truth of David's actions, Arei was heading right down the same path that he had headed.
(x) Arei: Of course I wanted to change myself. Who wants to be a grab-bag of negative personality traits? There's not even anything positive you could say about me. Arei: Still, for the longest time, I thought it was stupid to even try. I'm rotten to the core, and I might as well be a different species from saints like Eden and you. Arei: A pig never hopes to grow up into a human, because it knows that such a metamorphosis is impossible.
And this is the line that really, really makes me think that. She calls David and Eden saints because (up until this moment) she viewed both of them as the ideal of what makes a good person, similar to how David views Xander. And on the contrast, claims herself to be rotten to the core, ontologically evil with no redemption in sight. She's even performing David's habit of self-dehumanization, likening herself to a pig in the same way David likens himself to a cat in the LGI video, which goes to show how this mindset of black-and-white is, above all else, a dehumanizing view on the human race that relegates people into cardboard boxes with the flaps taped shut. If she didn't find out the truth of David's actions, I am confident that she would've done down the same path that he did, becoming convinced that she will be a terrible person until the day she dies because she cannot reach this worthless standard of a good person that she has set up in her head. But we know that's not how it goes. Arei does realize that the man she once thought of as a saint might be, in his words, a lying manipulative scumbaggy piece of shit. And upon realizing that, the second half of the message unlocks itself. There is no such thing as irredeemability.
Change is a part of being human. Humans are not built to run in a hamster wheel for the rest of their days, reliving their mistakes over and over again wallowing in their self-hatred and guilt. Eventually, they have to get off the wheel and start taking the steps necessary to grow, change, develop and flourish to properly better themselves. (This applies to yourself just as much as it applies to the worst, most depraved individual you know by the way) The alternative is living in a four-by-four black box of self-loathing and relentless stagnancy, which is not productive for the person or the people they've hurt. It is only when you reject these black-and-white categories of "Good Person" and "Bad Person" and accept that no matter what you've done, you're capable of becoming better, that you can achieve true growth and change. The way this message was executed, especially through a character that dies before the halfway point of the story, is something that I marvel at as an aspiring storyteller. DRDT's beating heart will always be its character writing, and this scene is one of the primary examples of that. Thank you, DT-Dev, for making Arei Nageishi and the rest of your amazing cast of characters. :D
Extra Thoughts !!! - FURUYA FANDOM (me) THE TRACK PLAYED LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO!!! - I am very excited to find out more about Nico's attempted murder given all of the questions surrounding it. If the method of murder really was replicated, and Nico wasn't the culprit themself, you guys should take a wild guess who that implicates. (this is probably obvious by this point, but I really don't believe in the theories that suggest that someone other than Nico was responsible for Ace's attempted demise, be it Hu or Ace himself. I feel like it doesn't line up with the current narrative direction that Nico seems to be going in, the physical evidence of them stealing the turpentine, and...I'm gonna be honest, I just don't like it lmao. I'm sure DT-Dev would do it well, but just as a premise I do not favor it. Nico's attempted murder + subsequent regret from it felt like such a big moment in the chapter's narrative in relation to the themes of All That Glitters and the cast revealing sides to themself that weren't as prevalent before, as well as the themes of change and moving on from the past littered all throughout the chapter. I think if Nico's attempted murder was responsible by anyone but Nico, it would just dampen the impact of their overall story for me. That's just me though.) - WE FINALLY GOT ANOTHER NONSTOP DEBATE LETS GO BOYS!!! Nonstop debates I MISSED you - "Hey why does Whit know so much about hangi--" Look. This man is so unbelievably suspicious in every single way that for the sake of my sanity, I'm just gonna assume DT-Dev chose a random character to give the hanging explanation. It is the only way I will survive this chapter - But hey, at least we got this
Tumblr media
- As always, I adore the new sprites we got this episode, especially Ace's new ones. It's probably the first sprite of his that actually appears emotionally vulnerable when he's not bleeding profusely from the neck. And of course, I loved David's shit-eating grin towards Teruko, I hope he never changes. - Speaking of Teruko, us getting Tutor Teruko was lovely. She is perfect, she is a little bit of everything all of the time.
(x) Whit: If you're so inclined to complain, Sir Light Pollution, why don't you try and think of some good evidence? Charles: Light pollution? Whit: You know… Cuz he had stars, and now he doesn't, and light pollution makes stars disappear… or… or… something….. Charles: I am truly impressed…by how bad that was.
- I love these dorks so much. I can tell DT-Dev has a lot of fun writing them.
Tumblr media
- Teronika Consent animation! I guess after Acevi's Soap Opera, DT-Dev decided to feed the yuri crowd as well. Love it when we get to see those little sprite animations, too.
Predictions for CH2-14 - The episode is 40 minutes long, the longest episode we have had so far. (40 minutes of DRDT content... I'm excited just thinking about it!) Because of that, I think I will just start with my biggest prediction: I think we're getting the culprit reveal this chapter. I don't think that just because of the length either. When you really look at it, we have basically used every piece of evidence at least once with the exception of three: - The conditions of the gym (which I assume will be discussed next) - The scuffs on the ground - The ball of starchy clothes All three of those pieces of evidence I think can definitely be cleared up in the span of 40 minutes, especially since full focus is now on the murder case. I don't necessarily think the trial will end in this episode, but I think we have at least one more trial episode to go before the post-trial + execution + ending of the chapter. - And as the culprit reveal is approaching, I have formulated a tier list of who I think is least - most likely to be Arei's culprit. I will provide my reasoning for each.
Tumblr media
No. 17/16 - Xander Matthews + Min Jeung I mean, what it says on the tin. They're dead, and thus couldn't had committed the murder. No. 15/14 - MonoTV + Arei Nageishi There are explicit rules against them being the culprit. Rule 8 and Rule 11 in particular. No. 13 - Teruko Tawaki She is the protagonist. Didn't stop Kaede, but I highly doubt that's where DT-Dev is going. No. 12 - David Chiem Other than the previous five who I've all disqualified from being the culprit, David is probably the character I suspect the least. He has an alibi for the time of the murder, getting breakfast with J and Veronika, and thematically...well, he's basically being set up as the antagonist. I don't think we'll be rid of him this early lmao. No. 11 - Charles Cuevas Charles has a fear of blood and dead bodies, and though I wouldn't say that completely disqualifies him from becoming a culprit in the future, in a case like this with such a complicated mechanism like this where he'd have to be in very close proximity with the body at all times? I highly doubt it. He also has an alibi for the fish (He was with Whit). No. 10 - J Rosales J both has an alibi for the fish (Arturo following her around), and an alibi for the morning (getting breakfast with David and Veronika), and both of those alibis can be confirmed. I don't think she did this. No. 9 - Veronika Grebenshchikova I'll be honest, I really don't see Veronika committing a murder at all. She clearly wants to see this through to the end, and killing someone would come with the risk of her being executed, which I don't think she would see as a satisfying conclusion to her story. That, combined with the fact that she has an alibi for the fish (bothering Teruko) and an alibi for the murder (getting breakfast with David and J) makes me think she didn't do this. No. 8 - Nico Hakobyan You might think it's weird to place Nico this low on the overall tier-list despite them not having an alibi for the fishes, and their morning alibi being...somewhat flimsy but I'll get to that with Hu, but here's my logic. Nico was driven to attempt murder from very specific circumstances. That being, Ace's relentless bullying and abuse towards them. Nico has said before that they'd understand murder if the perpetrator didn't like the victim, and while I don't think they exactly liked Arei, I do not think they harbor the same animosity towards her as they did towards Ace. I truly believe that Nico would only ever resort to murder if they truly despised the person in question and saw no other solution. So that is why I feel comfortable placing Nico at eighth. No. 7 - Hu Jing Hu is also another character that I think some will be surprised to see so low, but I don't think this was her doing. She has an alibi for the fish (cleaning up with Eden), and though again her alibi in the morning is very flimsy (having tea with Nico in the morning,) I do believe she is telling the truth because if she was lying about her alibi, I think the brutally blunt Nico would call her out for it. I'm sorry, I just simply cannot imagine Nico letting that shit slide regardless of how many theories I read. Not to mention I can't really think of a motive for why she would kill Arei specifically when, if she really did want to kill someone, Ace is right there. No. 6 - Whit Young Whit is supremely fucking suspicious and a lot of his behavior in the trial is literal shenanigans, even more so given the fact that he doesn't have an alibi for the actual murder. But he does have an alibi for the fish (again, he was with Charles) which is the main sticking point of Whit!Culprit. His other sticking point is his lack of motive, both in terms of the secrets and Arei specifically. I don't know like- just look at this man, do you think he did this? /joke
No. 5 - Levi Fontana The number one suspect in the fandom for a while, and he's only at number five. He ultimately lacks an alibi for the morning, and his alibi for the fish was that he was doing his laundry... With no one else around. Shady as fuck. But I think given his principles discussed in this episode ("it is a good thing to make sure someone else doesn't die"), and the genuine desire to be helpful he has expressed throughout this trial, I think him being the culprit is unlikely. That's why I was adamant on him being an accomplice for a while because I still thought he had some role in the case, but oh well. No. 4 - Rose Lacroix I'll be honest, Rose is only this high because her alibi situation is worse than Whit's and Levi's combined. Both of her alibis are that she was sleeping in her room, which cannot be proven and can be very easily lied about. But other than that, I don't think she is the culprit. I think this case requires too many physical maneuvers for someone as lethargic as Rose to pull off successfully, and if she were the culprit I don't think she'd bring attention to the missing grippy tape at all. No. 3 - Arturo Giles Arturo does have an alibi for the fish (following J), but does not have an alibi for the morning. Unlike basically every other character here, something else that puts Arturo above them is that he was capable of overhearing Eden and Arei's conversation and forging the note. But there is also a discrepancy present that is also present with every character here, and that is the fact that Arturo did not witness Nico's attempted murder or the condition of Ace's body and the gym, so there was no way he could've replicated the murder method used for Ace on Arei. So though logistically he is a more likely possibility, I don't think it was him. No. 2 - Ace Markey Ace, to me anyway, is the second most likely candidate to being Arei's killer. He does not have an alibi for the fish and could've very easily grabbed them after David and Arei left the Relaxation Room, and he doesn't have an alibi for the morning either. He has a very clear motivation for taking a chance at killing someone, of "someone literally sliced my neck open not two days ago and I know I am not safe here I need to get the fuck out." If you choose to factor in strength, Ace is one of the strongest members of the cast and would be more than capable of the physical maneuvers made to kill Arei. Though I personally don't believe in this theory, if you think Ace attempted suicide instead of Nico trying to kill him, he has the murder method down lock too because he tried to commit it onto himself. He has been shown to be nosy, so it is not improbable that he listened in on Arei and Eden's conversation. And lastly, he is one of the only two suspects who was capable of stealing the grippy tape that was used in the murder. All of the evidence is practically stacked against him... But there are a couple of problems. One, if you believe that Nico did try to kill Ace, than the point about Ace knowing the exact method of death goes out the window. He was knocked out by the turpentine, and woke up in extreme pain in a blinding fury of rage and bloodlust, I don't think his surroundings would be the first thing on his mind. But a much bigger issue we have is the question of... Why would Ace take the tape? Following this theory, his murder plan wouldn't had started until the day after Nico's attempt on his life, it would make no sense for him to take the tape then. These two sticking points are why, though a likely candidate, I do not think Ace is the culprit. That award of main suspect goes to...
No. 1 - Eden Tobisa Yeah, if you've spent any time on this account you probably know I'm an Eden!Culprit truther. There are many well-written posts about this theory that I'm sure you've seen so I'll try to keep this short, but though the theory does have a few flaws to it, the big one being Eden's alibi for the fish that she was cleaning up with Hu, I think Eden being the culprit makes the most sense from an evidence, thematic, and motive standpoint. I know some people have dropped the theory upon the fork reveal, but DRDT is not unbeknownst to killing off characters with certain mysteries left unanswered. That is basically all for my predictions related to the culprit, but I still have some predictions for the overall episode. - Nico's gonna get placed in the hot-seat, obviously, which will definitely cause a reaction out of both Hu and Ace. And I honestly feel like the two of them are going to keep interrupting Nico until they eventually snap. And I hope that happens honestly because unless you count the "I'll kill you" line, we have yet to see or hear Nico when they're actually angry angry. Nico obviously doesn't like conflict, but they might have to get over that if they actually want to defend themself knowing the other two. - I'm still holding out hope we'll get a Random Guess segment lmao - And lastly: I need Whit to break the forth wall at least once I didn't put that on the bingo card for fucking NOTHING
Conclusion I'm gonna be completely honest, I do not have the energy to write anymore and I just want this out lmao. But overall, this was one of my favorite episodes in the whole series. I loved the Levi and Ace stuff, I like that we now have all the secrets, and like I said, the scene with Arei is probably one of my favorite scenes in the show. CH2-14 is going to be a wild ride I can already tell, and if we do find out who the killer is, you will see me screaming. Regardless of if it's Eden lmao.

⛩️ Touhou/ 🌴 Danganronpa2 Crossover
I’ve been imagining a storyline where Danganronpa 2 characters (Hajime Hinata and Nagito Komaeda) find themselves in Gensokyo. With the help of Alcibiade(@elfen-alcibiade), who shares a love for both games, I’ve completed a manga depicting part of that story. Detailed explanations can be found at the end of this post. We hope fans of both series will enjoy it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
▼Detailed explanations:
In this manga, Hajime and Nagito are invited to a banquet at Hakurei Shrine some time after wandering into Gensokyo.
The events leading up to this banquet aren’t fully fixed, but here’s the rough outline I have in mind: Nagito, known as the "Ultimate Lucky," is led to the Human Village with Hajime and stops by Geidontei. There, he displays incredible luck at Sannyo's gambling den, becoming famous in a single day. Mamizou, who also happens to be at Geidontei, finds this amusing and challenges him to a few games but loses badly. Frustrated, she suggests Nagito play a game with Reimu, another person known for her luck. Reimu, unaware of the extent of Nagito’s fortune, confidently agrees to the match.
--------
From here, I’d like to explain how Alcibiade (@elfen-alcibiade) and I collaborated to create this manga. While I had the general concept in mind for a long time, the entire story was too long to draw. So, I thought it would be nice if I could draw just one scene someday instead. When I shared this idea with Alcibiade, they provided the line art of Reimu in the first panel. This was incredibly helpful, as it gave me a concrete image of the scene.
Reimu’s dynamic pose, with her hand confidently outstretched, inspired the idea of her and Nagito playing Chinchirorin, a traditional Japanese gambling game where three dice are thrown into a bowl. It’s a simple game where luck plays a significant role. While the rules can vary by region, in this manga, the strongest roll is 1-1-1 (pinzoro). Reimu’s confidence in the pose made me imagine her expecting a good result, only to be surprised by Nagito’s extraordinary luck. In this way, the storyline and composition of this manga were largely shaped by that initial pose, and I’m deeply grateful to Alcibiade for their support and collaboration.
I already have some ideas about what happens next: Reimu accusing Mamizou of cheating (even though there was no cheating), Aya trying to interview Nagito as the winner, and Hajime and Nagito running into the three fairies planning a prank at the banquet. Alcibiade even drew a part of this sequel! If you're interested, check out their blog for more details!
Hmmm, there is so much more that I haven't written here yet, but I'm not sure how much more I should explain 😅 If anyone has any questions, feel free to send me an ask. Thanks for reading! 🫶💖

Updated intro post and masterlist time!
Hello! I'm 1moreff-creator, or just FF, and I'm your
Local Min Jeung Kinnie
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Art from DRDT's Sleepy MV, Literature Girl Insane MV, CH1 EP6)
This is a technically multifandom (but generally DRDT-centric) blog, where I mostly do analysis posts and theories, though there's some variety around here. I go by they/them, I'm aro/ace, and I have a sideblog dedicated to the Milgram project, 1moremilgram-enjoyer!
Here's my post masterlist, which I moved away from Tumblr to avoid the 100 link per post limit I was going to run into eventually. Interests and post highlight reel under the cut.
Interests:
(AKA everything you're welcome to flood my askbox with :D)
-DRDT. Obviously.
-Project: Eden's Garden and Danganronpa: One Shot are the next two I post the most about.
-Mainline Danganronpa, DRA and SDRA2, DR (He)artless Deceit.
-Milgram. Though you should probably go to the sideblog for that :p
-FNAF. This thing grabbed hold of me in 2014 and will not let go. Probable cause of my likely insanity, given I'm well-versed in the lore.
-BNHA. The hundreds of thousands of words I've written for class 1-B are the reason for the "fanfic" the "ff" stands for in my name :)
-SCP. Been reading a whole lot of articles, they're very fun.
-Life Series SMP. My favorite perspective ever is Double Life Pearl, if you're curious. I always watch her perspective first :)
Smaller interests also include Slay the Princess, Disventure Camp, JJK, Class of 09 (mainly OG and Re-Up I don't really like Flipside), Reality Resort, Undertale/Deltarune, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe (haven't thought about this one in a while though), and more I'm probably forgetting.
Post Highlight Reel:
-DRDT Secret Masterpost. Generally a good idea to check this out before any of my more unhinged thoughts.
-DRDT CH2 PT Analysis. Probably my best post ever, 28k words of mental illness.
-Mai Akasaki Analysis. Really love this one. I consider it a great introduction to Mai's character, and contains some theories I love a lot.
Amendments: Arrow in her numeral (ft cider-est) (Rb) - Matching phone charms (ft wist-eri) (Rb) - Mai flower discovery by the-fox-in-the-socks (0% my post but pretty important)
-Literature Girl Insane Analysis Video. Two and a half hours of sheer insanity, though reading the Mai post first is recommended.
Amendments: Post CH2 PT2 Update (Corrigendum).
-About Page Text Analysis. (Ask). Shorter than the others, but I think it's important enough to be listed here.
Update: where did it go.
-DROS Prologue & CH1 Analysis. Similar to the DRDT CH2 Part 2 Analysis, also pretty good imo.
-DRDT reacts to "I fucked your mom last night." Behold, my most popular post ever.
-Eden!Culprit Levi!Accomplice Theory. Although this was proven wrong, I'm still pretty proud of it and consider it a good theory for the time.
-Proving MonoTVid canon with LGI. Objectively the best post I've ever made.
Recommended Reads
Smaller theories I still recommend you read, especially if you want a full understanding of my beliefs when it comes to DRDT.
-Recap Foil analysis. (Ask) My thoughts on the really good theory that the CH1 recap video shows off some important pairs of character foils.
-Thoughts on Min's secret. (Pre-CH2 PT2 Ask) A bit of Min analysis, and a basic theory on how exactly she pulled off her motive secret.
-"Mai Order" Analysis and observations on the CH2 PT1 QnA. (Rb) This one's just funny.
-Survivor Predictions. (Ask) Self-explanatory.
-Thoughts on Teruko’s plan to end the killing game. (Pre-CH2 Ep16 Ask) Holy shit I kinda got something right???
-The Deal with Whit, according to me. (Rb) I just like how this analysis came out :v
-Mai and The Murder on Orient Express. Noteworthy theory ig.

I'm thinking of making a lil dc/danganronpa crossover but I cba to draw it rn so this is my opinion on which protagonist would be which robin / batgirl
(Edit: I made more of these - Next , Masterlist )
Nightwing - Makoto Naegi
- The first protag/robin
- Fandom tends to ignore their skills due to their positivity, also overemphasizing their niceness and effect on other characters
Oracle - Kyoko Kirigiri
- not a protag but hear me out
- both incredibly smart and help everyone with their intelligence and investigations
- often just thought of as a love interest to the first protag/robin rather than a complex character
Red Hood - Hajime Hinata / Izuru Kamakura
- Second protag/robin
- Someone did something that drastically changed his personality and life, when changed he kills people
- Robin 2 would be Hajime until he is turned into Red Hood/Kamakura before eventually he becomes a mix of the two (rejoins the bats)
Red Robin - Shuichi Saihara
- Took over from the last robin/protag because they died
- Seen as the smartest robin/protag
- Tim is canonly bi and Shuichi is the only main protag with a same-gender supporting character
Spoiler - Kaede Akamatsu
- The first female robin and the first female protagonist (in the main three games)
- Immediately died and got replaced with her male love interest
Black Bat - Komaru
- Not usually seen as an official protagonist/not an actual robin
- Overlooked fairly often, generally thought of because of one of her family members (komaru being Makoto's sister and Cass being seen as Bruce's favorite)
EDIT: Robin - Nagisa Shingetsu
(Tbh I don't know Nagisa that well yet but I thought this worked, ik he's not a protagonist but he was the leader of the WOH so I'm counting it)
- both have a lot of pressure from their family and we're raised in a fairly dangerous environment
- both very intelligent and seem pretty serious for their age (+ ages is another similarity)
Idk if anyone else had some this but I've been thinking ab it a lot lol. I can't think of who Signal would be in this so if anyone has an idea, I'm happy to add it in! I chose a batman in part 2

Dangancember 2024 - Danganronpa Top 24 Class Trials: Number 17 Danganronpa Another Case 2
Tumblr media
//Oh man...
//I'm gonna get in trouble, aren't I?
//Also wow, Yuki is staring REAL hard at Ayame's boobs in that image, isn't he?
//Alright, but forget that...
//I understand that this case is very popular. And believe me when I say that this is is a really good trial to me as well, and I really did enjoy it.
//What you have to understand is that we're in the area of the list where we're talking about the trials that I actually think are decent, and I have more positives to say about them than negatives. But with that said, I still have some negatives, and personally speaking, I think that this trial is kind of overrated.
//Something I notice is that opinions on the trials in the DR series are usually pretty common across the games. Most people, myself included, universally agree that the Case 3's are generally bad why the Case 4's are some of the most spectacular mysteries in the series.
//With Case 2, it's more of a dice roll. I definitely like Kizuna and Ayame's case WAY better than I like Mahiru and Peko's or Kokoro and Emma's, but FAR FAAAR less than I like Ryoma and Kirumi's and Chihiro and Mondo's.
//My biggest issue I think is generally the same big issue I had with 2-2 and A2-2. Especially considering the trial has some very similar story beats and moments.
//As I mentioned with 2-2, the pacing was awful, because the mystery itself is so simple in practice, but it gets derailed on pointless tangents and only around 30% of the trial itself is dedicated to the mystery. This is kind of the same, though not nearly as bad.
//The entire first half of the trial is trying to figure out the logistics and order of events with the case, and ultimately, it's concluded that Akane Taira is the culprit. Then the next quarter of the trial is trying to figure out how she did it, only for that to conclude in being a red herring.
//Then the rest of the trial immediately shifts focus onto Ayame Hatano being Kizuna's killer, and I feel like we didn't dedicate nearly enough time to her and her interruptions in the case. We kind of just said, "she did this, this is where things don't add up, KICK HER!"
//Makes a weird case when the vast majority of the trial is talking about everything that Akane did, and how Kizuna ended up dying, and only a small fraction of it is dedicated to the ACTUAL crime and how things played out.
//There's also the fact that it didn't need to be this long and drawn out, because considering Ayame's motive for killing Kizuna, she could have deflected the blame away from Akane at any time. And yes, I know that Ayame did have her own agenda behind her actions, but the general point of why she did was she did was to save Akane. To not see her jump to her defence.
//Besides that, there are a few other issues I have with this trial. I think the main one of those issues is the fact that the "decisive evidence" just really ISN'T decisive whatsoever.
Tumblr media
//The wiretrap is the best example, because the way it was handled in this was kind of dumb. Not only does Ayame's use of it backfire massively because she literally cannot tell front from back, but the assumption that she even used it in the first place is covered far too quickly.
//It just feels like something that's immediately noticeable, and I immediately questioned it. But the fact that nobody brought it up until the end of the case made me second-guess myself the whole time.
//It's ultimately kind of disappointing to me that I had an idea about something that I thought might not be correct, until I find out the only reason it wasn't covered is because everyone in this game is a dumbass for some reason. Especially since it's not IMPOSSIBLE that she could have accidentally hit the back of her leg through some means, and with it being the evidence that ultimately nails Ayame as the killer...doesn't feel right...
//Still, despite the fact that you don't have to rack your brain too much in order to cover all the points this trial makes, the mystery itself ends up being decent on most fronts. So I can't complain too much about it.
//My other issues mainly stem from the characterizations. There are some standout character moments here, but there are a few things that I do take issue with.
//The big one...is Kizuna.
Tumblr media
//Kizuna is essentially Hiyoko but somehow worse. She spent most of her screen time bullying other students, and she's also guilty of pimping herself and her friends out to people, literally tries to RAPE Yuki during her last FTE, and in this case, tried to convince Akane to assist in killing Yuki because he allegedly knew the identity of the Mastermind. Something that, while an interesting twist in retrospect, was fairly groundless.
//Then she tried to kill her when she refused because she knew too much. She also confessed that she had been prepared to kill someone since day two.
//It devolves to the point that at the conclusion of the trial, nobody is upset with Ayame for taking her life. I know this might mostly be because Ayame did it with mostly noble intentions, and Kizuna was the asshole victim, but it still feels like Kizuna got absolutely wasted here.
//The most redeemable thing Kizuna does in the entire time she's in the Killing Game is she writes "Maid" in her blood after she is stabbed by Akane so that the others know she killed her, but alters the message to "Maid X" meaning "Not the maid," after Ayame shows up to complete the task.
//But then she dies, and any kind of decent character arc or development she had was cut short.
Tumblr media
//A case can be made for Hiyoko in that despite still being rude to people, before she died, she was showing genuine growth, and a desire to move on, mainly through how she was trying to learn to tie her kimono without Mahiru's help. But the way Kizuna is handled here makes it seem like she's developing, only to rip that away from her at the end, and make the claim that "Oh yeah, she was always this evil bitch."
//Hiyoko wasn't evil, she just grew up in the wrong environment, and as she got older and more mature through the killing game, it was shown by her growing out of it. Meanwhile it really does just feel like LINUJ was trying to reinforce the fact that Kizuna won't, and cannot, change, no matter the terrible situation she's in.
//LINUJ does this A LOT! Especially in SDRA2. And I HATE it.
//In Chapter 1, she is introduced as a typical Cruel cheerleader who hides behind a vivacious façade. However, in Chapter 2, Yuki and Akane overhear her sobbing about how lonely she truly is, and they encourage the other students to embrace her into their friend group, which she accepts with tears. She cries when she confesses that men have only ever seen her for her appearance, and seems to connect with Yuki after he persuades her not to rape him, if you follow all of her free-time events.
//Only later, she tells Akane that the entire incident was a ruse to win their trust so she may kill Yuki, whom she (rightly, might I add) believes to be the mastermind. When Akane tries to stop her, she easily turns the knife on her.
//It just bothers me that there are so many accounts of Kizuna showing remorse for her past, a genuineness in her character, and on SEVERAL OCCASSIONS at that, only for the game to ultimately decide that she's a jerk to the soul with no redeemable qualities, and then rips everything away from her so that a bad taste is left in your mouth.
//I don't know, I just don't like it. I'm not really sure what else I'm supposed to say. Like, I get why LINUJ sees the world this way, but he has proven he's capable of writing characters who do bad things, but grow and feel remorseful for them.
//Akane and Ayame both go through that in this chapter and they are the best examples.
Tumblr media
//Speaking of which, let's talk about the latter next.
//To her credit, I think Ayame is one of the best killer's in the original Another game, if not, THE best. For me, it's a toss-up between her, and another character who we'll get to later.
//What actually happened with this case is Ayame found Kizuna's almost dead body after Akane accidentally stabbed her, and even if she had hurried to get help, Kizuna would have very certainly died from her stomach wound by the time she returned, and Akane would have become the Blackened as a result. In light of this, she believed that turning into the Blackened herself was the only way to stop Akane from doing so.
Tumblr media
//Which, surprisingly, is something that we've NEVER gotten before. Despite how easy it could be, the original Danganronpa series, even to this day, doesn't have a single case where someone took the fall for someone else to stop them from being executed.
//The closest we've gotten to this up until this point is Chapter 2 of Danganronpa 2 where Peko killed Mahiru. It's widely accepted that the reason she did it was so Fuyuhiko didn't have to become the Blackened himself.
//However, with Peko, not only did she not deal the killing blow after Fuyuhiko already attacked Mahiru, but she mainly did it as part of her duty to be Fuyuhiko's tool. Which isn't to say she didn't genuinely care about Fuyuhiko as a person; but what I mean is that in Peko's mind, her duty to serve as his weapon against his enemies would have come first.
//And unlike Ayame, Peko really thought out the consequences, and acted completely selflessly. Because Peko did not care about herself enough to try and beat the odds.
//In the case of Ayame, her actions to kill Kizuna and stop Akane from being executed were driven by genuine friendship, and not wanting her to die. She knew that the liklihood of her beating the trial wasn't that high given the united forces against her, and she would have been content losing her life so long as she got to save Akane's.
Tumblr media
//But what I also like about this case and Ayame's motives is that even she herself admits that her actions weren't entirely selfless. Rei rightly points out to her at the conclusion of the case that if she really wanted to save Akane, there would be no need for the trial, because in the case that she won it, Akane would have been executed anyway.
//And Ayame affirms this and accepts the responsibility for that. She just retains the consistent honesty that she's known for, and doesn't try to play up her actions as heroic or noble, because she herself DID have a desire to escape from the academy, and she IS selfish to an extent.
//As well as the fact that another reason is because she wanted to be sure that she had done the right thing, and that Akane really had stabbed Kizuna on accident.
//It's one of the saddest deaths in the entire game, especially given how Akane desperately tries to say everything that's on her mind in Ayame's final moments so she can be sent off with them.
//What's even better is that Akane turning out to be the Mastermind doesn't change any of this for me. The fact that she forgot her memories before the end of Case 5 and ended up forming this genuine bond with Ayame is wholesome as hell.
Tumblr media
//As well as the fact that she admits in her final moments that it's Ayame's kindness that really helped her switch sides.
//Which I think is an interesting and underrated parallel of Akane's relationship with Utsuro. The reason why Akane sweared fealty to Utsuro is because he was the one who saved her life from an extremely shitty situation.
//You could argue that Ayame did the same thing here. So Akane developed a similar devotion to her late friend, and ultimately decided she didn't want to waste the second chance she got.
//Kind of the complete reverse of what I was just talking about with Kizuna's arc being betrayed in place of just keeping her a terrible person. Akane was a terrible person who did a lot of wrong, but I like that just as it can take one bad day to turn a reasonable person into a morally questionable individual, the reverse is true. One act of kindness can change an entire world view and reshape people.
//It's kind of the main message of Danganronpa. That Hope and Despair are equally as strong as each other, and you will find traces of one in places where the other might thrive. Akane's character arc throughout most of Another revolves around this singular point with Ayame, and it pans out spectacularly.
//So yeah, I can find no fault with Ayame honestly. She's just generally a really great character in this case, and has a lasting impact that spans the rest of the game, which is more than Mitch and Kinji can say, or deserve. I think it takes a lot of emotional maturity to be able to do the things she did and make the claims, as well as willingly accept that her actions weren't as noble as they might come across.
//Speaking of emotional maturity, Tsurugi has fucking none of that.
Tumblr media
//I eluded to this in the previous post about the case that came before this one, but for me, this is the point where I REALLY started to fall out of love with Tsurugi.
//I get that he's supposed to be the antagonist character, but Byakuya, Nagito, and Kokichi, while definitely antagonistic, never reached these levels of evil in terms of their antics. Byakuya definitely told someone to off themselves once or twice at some point, but he never said it in a serious context.
//In the midst of her complete and total mental breakdown over Ayame's execution, he icily orders Akane to kill herself, for no reason other than that he alone believes she still counts as a murderer because she accidentally stabbed Kizuna.
//Again. ACCIDENTALLY!
//Let me tell you all a little bit about the way court legislations work, my friends. Most jurisdictions allow the use of force, including lethal force, if you have a reasonable belief that your life or someone else's life is in imminent danger. The force used must generally be proportional to the threat. For example, using lethal force against a non-lethal threat may not be justified.
//But this was a lethal threat. Kizuna was straight-up trying to kill Akane here.
//Accidentally killing someone in self-defense might not automatically lead to prison, but the outcome will depend on how the law views your actions.
//But even with all this, coupled with the fact that Akane DIDN'T ACTUALLY kill Kizuna, is completely irrelevant to Tsurugi. And for the entire rest of the game, no matter how nice she is to him, he remains vindictive towards her for the entire game from this point forward.
//Even though she did essentially nothing wrong.
//And while that does make Tsurugi an interesting antagonist in this game, it makes me absolutely despise him as a character.
//Even though his accusations against her aren't entirely false, this is still a terrible situation. Despite his declaration that he is willing to collaborate with the other students on Kanata and Kakeru's murder trial in the very next chapter, he singles out Akane to explain he still views her as an attempted murderer.
//He does NOT let her get over it for the rest of the game. The only other character who does that is Kokichi, but he does that out of childish immaturity and a desire to get under people's skin. Tsurugi doing this is petty, and it makes me absolutely loathe him.
//It's in the same vein as why I hate Haiji Towa. Haiji's actions are pretty realistic given the situation that he's in, and I don't think he's a poorly written character at all. It's just that said writing makes them out to be so detestable that I can barely stand to be in his presence.
//I'd normally appreciate a 180 like this in a normal narrative, but this felt way too fast for me.
//And yeah, before anyone says it, I do know that there are no manslaughter laws in the killing game, and that these laws can be kind of complicated. If you kill someone in self-defence, you still become the blackened, because that's basically what happened with Leon, kind of.
//But the fact that Tsurugi complies himself to this bothers me.
Tumblr media
//However, that's mostly all my negatives out of the way, and everything else I have to say about this case is actually pretty stellar. The primary reason why it's not higher is because of the reasons that I've just discussed, plus I have a lot more positive things to say about the cases going forward than I do this one.
//Personally though, I think the biggest selling point for this trial for me is something that I normally recognize Fanganronpa's over, and one of the key selling points for any fan-related work:
//Originality.
//Look, if we can be completely frank about something, as much as LINUJ does get creative with his cases later, SDRA2 is the one that really branches out in terms of mysteries, while A1 plays it kind of safe by sticking to the same formula as the first and second games.
//Look at all the other trials, and you'll see what I mean:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
//A-1 is the same as 1-1: The murder is committed by the sports jock, and he uses his talent to assist in his cover up of the crime. He also has the most brutal execution right out of the gate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
//A-3 is the same as 1-3: The murderer is a typically reserved and mature individual who throws all of that to the wayside when they start to become cornerned. They also kill two people, and suffer a similarly religious-themed and passive execution that quickly turns intense and silly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
//A-4 is the same as 2-4: The murder arises during the height of tension among the students and involves them trapped inside a specific area of the Killing Game with very limited resources. It's also the point where they are most at each others' throats, and somebody makes a sacrifice in order to rescue them, either by killing themselves, or agreeing to commit a murder with another person.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
//A-5 is the same as 1-5: It's a murder and plot actually committed by the mastermind, but framed by another student as a means of taking back control of the Killing Game and dividing the students again. The student that they try to pin the blame on also somehow manages to escape their execution. Albeit Mikako's way of doing so is a lot more tragic than Makoto's.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
//And A-6 is the same as 2-6: The main cast of characters are revealed to be part of a larger conglomerate that they forgot about upon their memories being erased, and the Killing Game itself is revealed to be the prelude to a much bigger event. The main character is also revealed to not only be the true mastermind behind the killing game, and also found to be an entirely different person than anyone, even themselves, believed, but they also possess an unholy superpower of talent that makes them near unstoppable, despite their preconcieved normalcy among the cast.
//A-2 is the only trial that doesn't share almost anything in common with the originaly Danganronpa games. As I mentioned already, the closest point of commonality is how Peko and Fuyuhiko's situation slightly mirrors Akane and Ayame's, but even then, that's a stretch, and almost a completely different situation besides a few things.
//There's also the way that Ayame disguises her motives by pretending to be evil, like Peko did, but that lasts like...4 seconds, in comparison to Peko's half an hour, smh.
Tumblr media
//It feels detached from anything that we've seen before in Trigger Happy Havoc and Goodbye Despair, and really stands on its own legs as a case on the same level as the franchise has shown.
//What is most impressive is that this originality in the writing of the case is only the simple grounds upon which the rest of the mystery is built. After all, most of SDRA2's cases are fairly original, but that originality doesn't make them good (see A2-2). The case takes it and runs with it in good ways.
//For one, I like that the case shows the truth that eyewitness testimony and personal accounts of a case alone are nowhere near substantial enough to solve a case on its own, either by misconstruing a situation, or just straight up lying about what was seen.
//It's a hurdle that I feel most Danganronpa cases fail to jump, but this one does.
//Pun...not intended.
//I also really like the plot twist this chapter, and what ultimately drove Kizuna to single out Yuki especially, in that he apparently knows who the Mastermind is. We later find out that it's Yuki himself...kind of...but it's an interesting twist that sets the game apart from what is known in DR1, and the way it turns the others opinion of him on its head is pretty tense and engaging.
//But in general, I think this case is just all around super solid. It's just that compared to the other Chapter 2's in the Danganronpa series, this one is the middle ground. It's a compelling mystery that stands on its own merits, but it's not engaging enough to breach the top 10.
//I'm very sorry, because I understand that this trial is particularly popular among the audience.

Somewhere in the void there is a video of 12 year old me and a friend doing our own version of pinof with whiskers drawn on our faces with eyeliner... No idea where it is though.
I was wearing a hoodie with ✨generic anime girls✨ on and an adventure time t-shirt (+ Doctor Who badges, Matt Smith specifically, just to tie the look together). Both of which were second-hand from an older kid I knew who was a cosplayer. I thought they were so cool because they cosplayed. One time they put me in a wig and did my make-up and I have never felt prettier.
Things like that remind me how much of a loser I have always been.
But also it's kind of adorable. Little me being so excited about things like that. Finding community in the things other people find cringe.
Feeling less alone when I was being bullied for being queer because of Dan's coming out video, 'Dan's queer so it's okay that I am'. Having a group of older cosplayers help me out when I was being catcalled in my CORALINE cosplay, most of which I'd never met before, brought together by blue wigs and funny stares from passers-by. Meeting a friend in year 7 because they overheard me talking about DDLC (a very age-appropriate game -_-), literally jumping down a flight of stairs to talk to me. Talking to the girl I sat next to in maths in year 8 about our mutual love of Danganronpa only to befriend each other properly 2 years later, Danganronpa now replaced by Ace Attorney.
The things I love are so deeply intertwined with the people I meet and the people I love. Intertwined with my identity.
Realistically, I probably need to learn to be less ashamed of the things I love. Of being, as I so graciously put it, a loser.
I would much rather be someone cringe than be so absorbed with self-hatred that I end up drowning in it.
Have the courage to exist and whatnot.
(This post was originally just the first paragraph but I had to edit it to fix a typo and now we're here. Sorry for yapping. As a reward for reading this, here is a terrible drawing of chief yapper Sister Daniel that I did instead of revising for my sociology mock:)

Made a Doc that I THINK has all the necessary evidence needed cor the Upcoming Trial but anyways Ive fallen way too hard for Tetro Pink so here’s my theory on the killer!
Link to said Doc btw:
With that out of tbe way here’s my suspect list:
Watari, Tamba, Masa, and Hiroaki: Its probably rather presumptuous to say anyone isn’t the culprit, but IDRC because Im like 99% certain none of these fuckers are the culprit. (Okazaki is also part of this group but I have a theory on her for later). Watari and Tamba gave a rock solid Alibi for the night, Masa was one of the people to discover the body, and Hiroaki just doesn’t feel like it would. Between him taking charge of the group, being too much of an asshole, and just generally being scared of blood, I don’t think he did it. He also has an alibi it’s just not as solid…
Tsuno, Kamimura, and Wada: I don’t think any of these guys are the culprit, but unlike the former 4 (Or 5 Rather) I could potentially see them. However, I do think they all have solid defenses. Tsuno was taking care of Wada while he healed. Wada was… well… unconscious … And Kamimura claimed to have been in his room all night with Hasegawa (Not to mention helped a bunch with the case). And also just as the Ultimate Crime Scene Cleaner him leaving THAT much blood just doesn’t make sense.
Hanagi and Hayashi: The only Woman who I think would be most likely to do this + The man who is an obviously pretty decent suspect. They aren’t my personal top suspects but I can definitely say they have reason to kill or accidentally kill Chiba. Im not going to say for certain but either one of them does have that possibility.
Ojima and Hasegawa: Both are definitely suspicious as fuck. Ojima sleeping in Hiroaki’s room and SUDDENLY a bloodstain is on the Bottom of Hiroaki’s mattress?! Nuh uh, I don’t buy it. Not to mention him spacing out the whole investigation. Then again that sort of his disability so I can’t really call him sus for that but still… Suspicious.
And as for Hasegawa, Originally It hought he was safe due Kamimura’s Alibi, however late testimony unveiled that Harada saw him put in the hallway. Now is it possible Harada is lying? Definitely. Is it also possible Hasegawa accidentally murdered Chiba and Kamimura is just covering for him? Strong possibility.
And before we get to our Obvious Prime Suspect…
Okazaki: Y’all cannot tell me this masked bitch is not suspect as fuck. However, her alibi clearly means that she was not the killer. So what’s her deal then? Simple. She tampered with the crime scene. My guess is the Real Killer moved Chiba’s body to the Medbay to try and save her but failed and left her there, and the Okazaki, to make the murder more “Interesting”, pulled the Byakuya Togami ass move and hung her body from the ceiling, including putting her Pajamas on her to hide her injuries (With her assuming no one would be able to get her without the ladder, which she probably also disassembled). So yeah, Okazami villainous as fuck. I fucking know it.
And finally… That leads to our Prime Suspect and most likely Culprit…
Harada
Yeah I’m sorry y’all, but you can’t tell me it doesn’t make sense. His alibi is… rather lackluster, his only verifiable witness being Hasegawa (Which we can’t even confirm). Him being on the search for his motive item, his past, his connection to Chiba, and all the other potential unknowns, I can’t not suspect Harada. I will say that y’all can feel free to clown on me if he isn’t the culprit, but I’m like 90% sure we’re losing Animal Boy Next week. Sorry y’all :(
Anyways that’s just my piece but let me know your thoughts!!!

I volunteer as tribute. Yap to me, stranger on the internet.
OMGGGGG YAYAYAYYAAAAA!!!!!!!! >:DD
okok ummmn im so bad at starting points HAALPPP. ig i can just go over like ??? origin n sys function stuff??? i think thats fun :33
ok so like,. ive technically known i was a system since 2020 BUUT when i was introduced to plurality as a concept it was thru ........ the dark side .......... and i was forced into labels that didnt fit me and i was wrong abt basically EVERYTHING (thats a WHOOOLE OTHER RAMBLE LAWLL) but around like late 2021 i said screw it and just rebuilt my system from the ground up
but like ive also been plural since a child i just didnt realize or identify as such but like THE SIGNS WERE THERE (SQUINTS AT ME CREATING MANY YOUTUBE ACCOUNTS AND "PRETENDING" 2 BE DIFFERENT PEOPLE) its hard for me to know our complete history cuz of that but i have a DECENT GRASP!!!!
nuni n jax were the initial split (the "core"s if u will) with jax being the trauma holder,,,, hes kinda just turned into the MENTAL ILLNESS MAN atp which makes sense?? cuz thats why he split to begin with. ,.. IDK IF THATS OVERSHAREY LAWLL. they were rly similar when we were younger but over time developed vry different identities,.. nuni hasnt changed very much but jax is like TOTALLYY different
nuni doesnt front much anymore cuz she went dormant 4 a while and its difficult for her to adapt to the current world cuz so much has changed but we always let her front 4 fun stuff :3 like we have a yearly tradition where her and my partner go to see a christmas play its so cuuuute X))
i split next!!! we arent totally sure why we kinda went off the idea that i was nuni's imaginary friend for a while but we dont know for sure,,.,, it was some time around 2017ish from what we can tell!!! i split as an introject of an animation memer actually (animation memes were our LIFEEE BACK THEN) but i am COMPLETELY MY OWN PERSON NOW!!!
dire came around somewhere around the same time ,,, he split as a secondary protector n comforter of sorts!! he has gone thru many iterations and has multiple introject sources cuz he rly just took the form of who/what was the best comfort source 4 us at the time!! he started as an oc introject tho n thats still vry important to his identity :3 later he ended up as the form of a character who was german and had a german accent and that has had a lasting impact on his voice as well!!! i could ramble abt dire 4ever hes so silly we love him
next was reffy!!! reffy was split on november 27th 2019!!! this is the day we joined a danganronpa rp WRHKSDFGH discord server n met our bfff <33 we didnt rly have friends at the time and were generally struggling with social things,, so jax kinda put all of his traits he deemed most "likeable" in2 reffy and created him to be the ideal version of himself that ppl would like and went dormant for a whileee ,,, it took reffy a while 2 properly develop as a person but he is vry important to our system cuz of what he represents!!! we celebrate his birthday every year too :33
soo for a while it was just us 5!! we thought we had other alters sometimes cuz identity is wacky (plus we r like all made up of fragments tbhh)
then august of last year driell split!!! he was made on purpose (by jax AGAAAAINNNN) cuz him & his bf in our partner sys decided 2 have kids!!! he doesnt front vry much cuz hes rly socially awkward and a lot of our daily life requires TALKING TO PPL but we want him to front more D:
and THENNNN early this year we went thru ,... EVENTS!!!! and it kinda threw our whole system function OUT THE WINDOWWW BUT ITS OKAY!!!!
noxious split as a direct response 2 the Event .,, it started as a reffy clone tbh (we were actually planning 2 integrate them at first) but its slowly developing its own identity totally separate!! it fronted a lot in september and made a lotta progress w that :D sily dog creechur
fen has been around 4 a while but she was a "sub alter" to reffy and went by reffen but a few months ago we had a think and went HMMMM U KNOW. ACTUALLY SHE IS LIKE THEIR WHOLE OTHER PERSON SHE IS NOT A SUB ALTER ANYMORE!!! so we let them split off completely n its been better for both them and reffy !!!!
AND LASTLYYYY ZANE!!! he split on november 9th of this year!!! so some prior context jax is made up of a TONN of fragments just cuz of how his trauma holding function works. but he doesnt rly like splitting any of them off cuz hes . WEIRD. but we went to an emo night party and one of the fragments in him had a WHOLE AWAKENING listening to mcr and fallout boy and getting drunk in the moshpit (more context jax refuses to listen 2 anything but green day cuz HES!!! WEIRD!!!!) and it took like 3 days of internal deliberation but jax FINALLY DECIDED to let him be his own person!!!! and hes very happy that way X)
SOOO UM. YEA!!!! THAT IS A HUGE ESSAY!!!!! I HOPE THAT IS NOT TOO MUCH INFORMATION EHFKFJGHE
here r refs of us/what we look like cuz yes :33
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
height chart is from like march ish ??? so our recent splits his year r not included in it also zane doesnt have a proper ref OOOPSS (hes 6'1" btw) whatever its fine XD
THANK U FOR ASKING AND LISTENING TO MY SILLY GOOFY RAMBLES I GET VERY EXCITED TALKING ABOUT MY SYSTEM RAAAA ‼️ more asks r always welcomed too heheheee /nf

Since I'm never going to take the time to actually write an SDR2 musical, I'm just going to post all my Danganronpa 2 musical brainstorms that I dumped on some acquaintances on Discord. Just as documentation.
First of all (and this is genuinely just copy-pasted in the order I said it.), Akane would have an upbeat song like Violet's in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical. And maybe Nekomaru would keep trying to interrupt with a more basic melody, but then she keeps interrupting him back. Gundham’s song would be similar to H-llfire from Hunchback.
Akane's stuff could have shades of Dead Girl Walking (Reprise) from Heathers, if that makes sense. Just a vibe thing.
Plot-wise, I think the Twilight Syndrome Murder case can be dropped to just the envelope of photos, but I'd like to include the Funhouse if possible. (I specified this because I know the stageplay dropped the Funhouse, and precedent makes me stubborn.)
Chapter One:
First scene is just Hajime being confused and meeting people. Maybe we meet everyone through song, where everyone gets a verse to say their talent and their general deal.
Then we have Usami overpowered by Monokuma and Monokuma establishing the killing game. I'm thinking no song for that.
Impostor gets a song where he becomes the leader and encourages everyone.
First murder happens. A song for the trial, where Teruteru gets kind of Patter Song vibes to convey how no one could understand him at the end of that trial in the game. He's constantly interrupted by Nagito and the others.
After the trial, Nagito gets a short song about his bizarre ideology. It's going to get a few reprises later. That's why it's short. (Also, Nagito's song gets cut short by Kaz and Nekomaru abducting him.)
Chapter Two:
Instead of initially not knowing where Nagito is, the group is told the next morning that Kaz and Neko tied him up in the old building, and instead of having Mahiru bring him breakfast just once, it's a thing she does every day. She also still helps Hiyoko with her kimono
There's a song about exploring the new island, basically goes over all of what's there, in accordance with who Hajime spoke to in those places in the game (so, Fuyuhiko gets a verse in the diner, Sonia in the library, etc.) Fuyuhiko is the only character who doesn't sing (yet); he hasn't sung at all, this whole time. Not in a meta way, where he's acknowledging that everyone else is singing; he just doesn't do it.
Akane's song happens here, because it's where she first starts training with Nekomaru. Fast-paced duet where he keeps trying to slow her down.
Monokuma's motive is simplified from a video game to just an envelope of photos.
Mahiru asks Hajime to feed Nagito for her one day because she has another thing to do. He does, and Nagito sings part of a reprise for his song from earlier, but Hajime walks out on it.
Kazuichi brings Hajime in on his plan to crash the girls' beach trip, they find the body. When they find the mask, Sonia gets a song that is superficially her explaining Sparkling Justice and really her getting to be open about her interest in serial killers; there's a lot of creepy lyrical dissonance and I'm picturing it to be like (extremely deep cut incoming) the song "Silver and Gold" from the musical 1619: When Destinies Collide, as far as the general sound and the casually grim lyrics.
Investigation happens, Nagito pops in (and depending on the tone of the musical, his first line when he shows up can be something like, "Hey guys, good news! I've been in everybody's cabin tracing the shape of their shoes!"). The trial happens. They sing through presenting the evidence, except Fuyuhiko still only talks. The reveals happen the same as in the game, and Fuyuhiko's first sung word is just a long cry of Peko's name. From Chapter 3 on, he's a singing character.
Okay, that's as far as I got. Might add more later.

Hi! I hope you don't mind the sudden question, but i got really into Milgram recently and was wondering: What reasoning did people give when they voted Haruka guilty in the second trial? Like, generally speaking, what did the consensus seem to be?
Haruka is a character i strongly relate to, so i have a lot of Thoughts about him.
Firstly: Wow the start of the second trial was that long ago, huh 😅
Secondly: I need to explain that Haruka's trial was a bit different than most Not sure how recently you joined but in a normal trial, the MV will upload the same day a CD releases, and stuff like the instrumental, DECO covers and most importantly the voice drama will be officially uploaded at the same time
But for Haruka, due to some unspecified CD issue, we were getting the MV as planned then wouldn't get the voice drama for another two weeks This will be very important to his voting
Thirdly: Going into his trial, things were uncertain, a lot of people really liked Haruka and were very worried for him due to his new relationship with Muu. Whom many saw as a potential bad influence or threat. I won't get into it too much, but before this trial it was definitely more common to have a.... soft image of Haruka as a harmless little guy who had gone through a lot, who just made some mistakes because he didn't know any better
Its worth remembering that without the context of AKAA, Weakness is a very dream-like MV and not many were sure which parts were real or imagined One of the biggest debates about weakness was about if the blue haired child was a younger bother or Haruka himself It all seems quite quaint from here Some people thought Haruka might not have even killed a person, just animals, I was even considering a theory suggesting Haruka was in milgram for his own suicide (in the words of Danganronpa 'killing the person who is most important to you: Yourself') The girl with the plait wasn't thought about much as other than a possible childhood friend due to her being shown running next to young Haruka.
Fourth: The premiere of AKAA was super emotional and intense, it was a beautiful MV But like Purge March later, it would contextualise parts of Weakness we didn't expect it to Mainly the animal murder and the girl's death.
But without the voice drama, many were unsure what verdict would be best for Haruka Despite the failure of T1 Amane, many still thought we could fix the prisoners through voting right Some people saw this vote as a chance to get Haruka to break up with Muu if we played our cards right Overall people were confused and conflicted and couldn't wait for the voice drama to come out I think the best summary of feelings is a comment from the top of the AKAA comments section
Tumblr media
This was posted right after AKAA came out and reflected a common mood
This part of his voting period was very strange. Because of the uncertainty, people were pretty split People didn't think he deserved an innocent verdict, but they didn't want to punish him so harshly with a guilty one either And it turned into an interesting situation: What happens if a prisoner gets exactly 50%? It was an unlikely truce between two passionate sides but for about 2 weeks straight, 50-50 was sustained Or more accurately, it was a constant flux of 49.9-50.1, changing by the hour if not minute (I actually dreamt up a fic of this causing Haruka to get a migraine but like most of my fics it never materialised)
Then the voice drama released
At the time I was the mod of the second biggest milgram server (rip Fancult - unfortunately that place got nuked so I'll have to go off memories alone) so I got to watch as a lot of people gathered and listened to the VD at the same time We were still waiting on translations, but still people could appreciate the acting and pick out key words like the prisoners' names and... other common phrases
お母さん, "Okaasan" The Japanese word for 'mother' or 'mum'
Tumblr media
By the time we got to here it was Harukover 😔
Then a second Okaasan hit the verdict
Tumblr media
And this giant mess ended with the suicide threat that's been haunting us for the rest of the season...
Tumblr media
Needless to say, people were not too pleased
The 50-50 pipe dream was immediately shot down and betrayed
Tumblr media
This graph (by paiplushie on twt) shows it pretty clearly
One thing to keep in mind is that even before Muu's MV was out, people were certain she'd be voted guilty, there was a fervour for it (mostly because people saw her as having taken advantage of Haruka and having the wrong attitude towards her verdict)
For some reason, voting Muu innocent was never really considered an option
It was 'Haruka threatened to kill himself if we vote Muu guilty, how do we stop him doing that after we do' [personally I voted him innocent because I had a pipe dream that if both Haruka and Muu were inno then they'd be obnoxious about it but unharmed]
People justified voting guilty in different ways, some thought it'd make him break up with Muu and not want to die for her, some just didn't want to enable his action (threatening suicide is awfully manipulative) and some people genuinely believed that physical restraint was the most effective way to prevent him from attempting suicide... which all I'll say is I disagree with that logic
But yeah, once the VD was out it never really showed any signs of returning to inno

Shuichi Harem: Saihara Detective Agency, 2/5
Previous post. I'll do my best to link these together for those who want to see them all. We've got a lot to get through~
Also? Because I'm linking the posts, I'll be doing a lot less review of the general history of the encompassing AU. I wound up repeating myself a lot in the Fate harem posts a while back, and I'm going to cut back on that problem as much as possible. (人◕ω◕) I will reference non-canon events sometimes, and it'll be up to you readers to either roll with it or go back and read the previous post. I've connected V3 with the rest of the Hope's Peak saga and revolutionized the "fiction" bits to fit a more grounded narrative that doesn't seek to toss everything (everything) in Danganronpa out with the bathwater. This is my choice, so happy reading. All haters that don't have legit criticisms will be muted. (人◕ω◕)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Beginning
Maki Harukawa... Here's what you need to know. In this AU, her past is near identical to canon. She had a friend at the orphanage she wanted to protect, so Maki joined a cult - or rather, their mercenary corps - to keep them from recruiting her friend who seemed to have a lot more innate potential for the craft. Maki still did a ton of work as an assassin as a child, and her friend still died while she was away from the orphanage. Consequentially, Maki closed herself off from others and committed to assassin work full-time to numb the pain of her loss.
Eventually, she made a big enough blip on Hope's Peak's radar. More specifically, the Steering Committee caught wind of her ruthlessness and efficiency, and felt it was worth studying her and offered her shelter from the cult that controlled her life. Maki wasn't an idiot, she knew that she was exchanging a much smaller fish for a freaking killer whale when it came to the cult vs the Steering Committee of Hope's Peak, yet she was still sore about her friend's death and the pointlessness of going along with the cult...
So Maki jumped ship and let the Steering Committee bury the cult with their nigh well unlimited resources. She wasn't fool enough to think they were on her side, to assume that they didn't have means of reining her in or erasing her should she step out of line. But she did have a lot more freedom than before, and they funneled a ton of new, more high profile work her way. For her, it was just the next stage of evolution of her screwed up life. She never had true choices, demented adults dictated what she was to do and Maki carried out her duties whether she liked it or not.
Tumblr media
Her cover story, if Kizakura or the Headmaster or anyone was truly pushy about knowing what she did for a living, Maki (as well as her public file) was to tell them she was the Ultimate Child Caregiver, and not the Ultimate Assassin. Her talent worked along similar lines as the Ultimate Imposter in that she wasn't supposed to advertise what she was; if she was truly the best assassin, Maki could get by with a lame-ass cover story that probably no one believed. (人◕ω◕) Maki just channeled her experiences from the orphanage to come up with stories of her 'raising kids', and that seemed to satisfy most people that asked.
Although to be fair, she never spent much time at Hope's Peak, as Class 79 was only there a few precious months before the Tragedy unfolded and they were whisked away by a separate Mastermind. While at Hope's Peak, Maki kept to herself and stonewalled her classmates. Work was more preferable, even if all the constant killing numbed her to the bone and gave her plenty of nightmares. (人◕ω◕)
This isn't to say Maki never associated with her classmates. She just didn't truly bond with them. Not in these few months. The ones she talked to the most were the nosy Kaede and Kaito... and she kept an eye on their resident luckster, who appeared to have a history of working in a private detective's firm. His Uncle's. Though Shuichi seemed to swear off detective work... up until that pianist ninny dragged one of their senpai over, and eventually got Shuichi to tagalong as a poor excuse of a sidekick. (人◕ω◕) Yeah, Maki didn't have a high opinion of Shuichi with how wishy-washy he was. And Shuichi didn't know what to make of Maki, with how closed off she was.
Their beginnings were not rosy. But it's just the hand they were dealt~ Maki is an assassin. Shuichi a wannabe detective. They were destined to be at odds, at least at first. (人◕ω◕)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
... Oh, and just so we're perfectly clear? Yes, Kokichi approached Maki Roll during these first few months. He was the worst to deal with because it's like he figured out her 'game' from Day 1. (人◕ω◕) And despite knowing what she did, Kokichi just kept pushing her buttons. The fact the gremlin gravitated to Shuichi as a "bestie" only made Maki avoid Shuichi more, back at Hope's Peak. She came close to pounding the grape gremlin more than a few times... But she always held herself back because one of the Steering Committee's rules was to not touch fellow Ultimate students; they needed them in mint condition for research purposes. (人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Hazy Middle
Suffice to say, when it rains, it pours. (人◕ω◕) Class 79 was kidnapped during the Tragedy, and they were presumed dead as their bodies were never found. The truth is much more disturbing: They were whisked away to a remote location for a different sort of... research. But not one of them was aware they were under a theoretical microscope. What they did know is that they were trapped in a "Killing Game", and to escape they needed to kill a classmate and fool everyone else. A game Maki might've played if she didn't have experience dealing with shady entities and knowing they couldn't be trusted for shit. (人◕ω◕)
... But as obstinate as she was in the beginning, keeping to herself and refusing to get attached, eventually the Mastermind(s) found ways to push her buttons. (人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕) The first round Maki avoided becoming a "killer", but in subsequent loops...? You better believe she was pressured just like everyone else.
Yes, they were trapped in a Killing Game "loop". Their memories always wiped (repressed) or adjusted so they only retained certain ones. Sometimes false memories were even manufactured so they could be used later; Class 79 were put through theater/TV productions to make them believe the memories they were acting out (unknowingly) were real. So seeing a "city" in ruins, they believed it to be Tokyo. Rifling through those ruins for supplies and shelter. And so on and so forth. (人◕ω◕) Each loop was unique, and sometimes they were given false names and talents to see what would happen. Maki was generally kept an assassin in the shadows, waiting to strike when she was pushed too far.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But like the Hope's Peak and Jabberwock Killing Games, life is never so simple. Even in these scripted loops. (人◕ω◕) Maki was never a thorough, dyed-in-the-wool blackheart. She never pretended to be an idealist or a sap like Kaito or Kaede. However, deep down she possessed some scruples. Maki was more of a gray character. An antihero if it came down to it. When she didn't succumb to motives or manipulations, Maki was dragged into bonding with Kaito, and subsequently Kaede and Shuichi who were joined at the hip with the idiot.
They weren't always all alive each loop. Whether the "survivors" took down the "Mastermind" or not, it was more normal for one or two of them to die by the end of each loop. Still, regardless of which varied combination, these three became Maki's anchors to morality and humanity. Kaito appeared to be her favorite for several loops… And even up to the most recent loop, Kaito seems to know from instincts how to reach out to her; it takes persistence and showing her your heart. (人◕ω◕) Maki might still treat you like a nuisance, might begrudge you every inch of your effort, but eventually you'll wear her down if you squint. She's not the most open person. Maki doesn't like mushy crap (at least she won't ADMIT anything).
… But as special as Kaito was, after a while Maki began avoiding him on instinct. Not out of spite or hatred of him, but deep down her subconscious remembered losing him more than once, and she rightly or wrongly came to associate those miserable feelings with "I'm cursed because of my past and bloodied hands, I can't risk Kaito dying because of me." These loops have made all of Class 79 a hot mess, and they keep acting on impulses and instincts they don't understand at all because their memories keep getting repressed each loop. (人◕ω◕) It makes the study of Class 79… fascinating~
So what happens? Well, we get a case of Maki stuck at a crossroads. Sometimes the darkness consumes her because she isolates herself so completely. Other times she "remembers" she has friends (unconsciously) and she becomes a risky yet dependable ally if the chips fall just right. (人◕ω◕) And who do we have to thank for Maki's…growth? Surprisingly it's not the sappy sacks, Kaede and Kaito. Those two don't give up, and they did wonders in getting her to open up… But Maki is NOT a ball of sunshine. As nice as it can be to indulge in their "never say die" attitudes sometimes, you know it's not good to stare into the sun too long, right? (人◕ω◕)
This…is where Shuichi comes in. He's as much a "prisoner" as she is with those blowhards, even if it's annoying to deal with his lack of self-esteem. (人◕ω◕) Shuichi is more grounded… And despite becoming an artificial "Ultimately Detective" throughout the loops, he really sucks at doubting others in the beginning. It leads Maki to watch out for him and teach him that some people just aren't worth believing in. She's a heavy pessimist, and thinks the two of them will inevitably be at odds because of her real identity. Yet she's proven wrong time and again as Shuichi puts in the effort to reach out to her even after she's exposed as an assassin throughout the loops. They keep having this conversation where Maki argues assassins exist in part because of detectives, and Shuichi keeps arguing back he'll work towards a world where Maki can live the way she wants to. Where assassins won't be "needed". (人◕ω◕) Maki has no reason to believe he'll pull it off. He sounds as idealistic as the space idiot… Yet some part of her deep down WANTS to see what this shoddy excuse of a detective manages to do. It's irrational. But she can be perfectly candid and transparent with Shuichi and not get bombarded with cheesy hugs or empty reassurances that everything will be okay. Shuichi is trying to end these Killing Games and find the Mastermind, and sure he's not the most awe-inspiring guy that ever existed. But it means a lot that he listens and tries playing devil's advocate. He does get caught up in Kaede and Kaito's optimism, but Shuichi isn't a total suckup that just goes along with all their whims. He does try being the detective they all sorely need. (人◕ω◕)
… Now, Kokichi gravitating to Shuichi all the damn time… It gets on Maki's nerves and she despises the troll. She can't figure the little shit out, and a large part of that is his friendship with Shuichi is GENUINE despite how much he messes around. (人◕ω◕) Maki doubles down on watching out for Shuichi because of that turd.
Romance between them is slow, and doesn't happen often. It usually takes specific conditions, like Kaede or Kaito dying. But it's not just a consoling type of relationship, they've been building up to this whether they knew it or not. Maki isn't overly sappy or shameless like those other hussies, but she does get…jealous. (人◕ω◕) She's affectionate with Shuichi in her own unique way, and she appreciates the reciprocation even if his confidence could use a damn overhaul. Has several girls hanging off him, and he thinks he has nothing to offer? For a detective he sure misses the small stuff. (人◕ω◕) Like that it shouldn't matter what HE thinks of himself. That's not how attraction works. If he WAS vain or self-absorbed, Maki would probably throttle him and not talk with him nearly as much. (人◕ω◕) If he could just have SOME self-love, that'd tie it all up with a nice little bow. But oh well, fixing that stuff is on Kaede or Tenko. Maki's here to temper his detective work and salvage her own soul somewhat. Don't you judge her. (人◕ω◕)
Tumblr media
The Ending... or a new Beginning...?
Eventually the loops will end. Class 79 survivors will enter a period of collective comas because their minds can only handle so much. (人◕ω◕) But the comas won't be forever. And their repressed memories will return to them over the coming months and years. It's gonna take a lot of counseling and rehab to come to grips with the past five years.
Maki…is left not knowing what to do. For the first time in her life, a blank canvas of her future lies before her, and she doesn't have the first idea what to commit to paper. The cult is gone. The Steering Committee is gone. The whole underworld is in chaos and getting reshaped to fit the new post-apocalyptic world. If she goes back to assassin work, she's basically continuing Ultimate Despair's agenda, and that's a whole new level of darkness she isn't completely sure she wants any part in. (人◕ω◕) For better or worse, she missed out on the Tragedy because she was trapped with her class. She knows criminal elements will continue existing. But now she's being given an out - a completely blank slate. If she chooses to go back to what she's always known, that's suddenly on her. No messed up adults forcing her to obey them. (人◕ω◕)
… So Maki drifts to Shuichi's humble new agency he opens up. Shuichi would benefit from someone that's had experience on the other side of the fence of the law, and has her ear to the pavement on sheer instinct, listening to the underworld rumblings. Despite Kirumi being cagey about Maki showing up out of the blue, Shuichi trusts her. Maki's the second one to show up and offer to lend a hand… Well, maybe third, if you counted Kokichi…? But regardless, Maki's experience and knowledge is invaluable to his mission of creating a better world, one step at a time. (人◕ω◕) Maki still thinks he's shooting for the moon, he's still several steps behind criminal elements. That's just how it is for detectives.
Yet working with Shuichi isn't a strain, isn't like a boulder tied around her neck. It's her choice and she's making something of her life. Finally. (人◕ω◕)
Kaede, Miu, and Tenko are exhausting to deal with, but the biggest headache for Maki is Kirumi who makes her jump through so many hoops to just be around Shuichi. (人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕) And if anything, the distrust is mutual because Maki remembers some loops where Kirumi became a "killer", too… Of course Kirumi is quick to point out SHE has never killed anyone for real. Maki HAS. (人◕ω◕) Not that that's a comfort to Maki after the maid tried covering up her crimes in the loops… She's not paragon of virtue and justice either. (人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)(人◕ω◕)
But such is life~… Whether they like it or not, these five all love Shuichi, and Shuichi loves them all. If you think it's spicy while they're all dating Shuichi, just want until marriage. … And parenthood. (人◕ω◕)/
